Snow

Funny how things seems to stop when a little snow falls. It's not like we were not aware, 20th century brought us the weather report which are more and more accurate nowadays. So why does it take the people minding the roads so long to react? Another great French thing I guess.
For my part I enjoyed a little stroll in the snow around my house, seeing how useless Parisian drivers are on the snow. Fun to watch!

China baby!

Yep, tomorrow I'm flying to China. Can't wait to be there. I will visit the Great Wall and the forbidden city. I am going to the Clefs d'Or international congress held in Hangzhou. Lots of activities during that congress, visit of the area and most probably all the bars of the hotel we are staying at! I will give a full report when I get back in 10 days. I will try to post before summer!

It's back

And it's beautiful. Just picked up the Old Lady this afternoon after a month long renovation. The paint job is amazing! It looks like it just got off the production line. Pretty pleased with the result!

Holidays are over

One more day to go and it's back to work until at least Christmas. Then we will patiently wait for the Baby to come (normally end of January but we never know...)
I had quite a mellow holidays. I redecorated the living room on my first week and it looks pretty cool now. I still have a few bits and pieces to put together but the result is satisfying.
I also went to the auto show and despite the financial crisis there were a lot of beautiful cars around. My heart will go obviously to the 8C Alfa Romeo. Magnificent body and powerful too. The new Lamborghini was quite interesting, 4 doors and a stunning look!
The highlight of my time off was our trip to Venice. This is really the romantic place everybody is looking to go to! Plus at this time of the year, there is not that many tourists which make the visit very pleasant. And we had a beautiful weather too, 26°C and sunny all along! Of course we couldn't go in Italy without eating a pizza and it was delicious! and cheap too, 10€! We stayed at the Molino Stucky Hilton, an old floor mill transformed into a luxurious hotel. On our last evening we ended up eating in front of former Russian president Gorbatchev. I witnessed a lovely interaction between him and the waiter which could have resulted in a big diplomatic problem! Mr Gorbatchev asked for a coffee but did not want the local favorite, espresso, then the waiter went "Ah yes you want an American coffee!" Glad the Russian had humour and laughed.
After this Italian escapade, I went on a road trip to the South of France, Nice, Marseille and Nîmes with an incursion in Monaco and Italy. It took me 7 hours to drive down to Nice at the average speed of 138 km/h. Not bad and I still haven't received anything from my friends in blue! It was good to see people I haven't seen for a long time. Laurence in Monaco who's working at the Metropole. Beautiful hotel design by Jacques Garcia! We had a lovely time in their bar talking about this and that. On my way to Marseille I stopped by the Four Seasons in Provence to have lunch with Jean-Jacques at a lovely restaurant in a charming village. Then going through the French version of the Grand Canyon, les Gorges du Verdon. Huge cliffs dropping down to the unique green colored river. A truly amazing experience for the eyes!
And now I am back from all this adventures! I even had my car broken into 2 nights ago in my garage! Nice, bloody track suit low life! They stole a few Cd's and my sunglasses not even worth the price of the broken window.
Anyway it's all repaired, thanks to top notch insurance (nothing to pay). This afternoon, I went to check on the Old Beast since it has been undergoing a massive body renovation. It's back with a new paint job and it looks like brand new. It's brilliant, I can't wait to go and get it once they finish to put back together all the parts and stuff.

Thai Spices

Yesterday off. Not really willing to shop for food. Uta came back home from work with a brilliant idea : "let's go to a restaurant. I fancy Thai or a nice bistrot" Thai it was and we were in for a treat. Tucked away on rue de l'Ave Maria in the 4th arrondissement, Thai Spices "by Wite" is a real gem in the world of pseudo Thai restaurants owned by Chinese people, cooking with the book "how to make money with every possible style of cuisine". No this is the real deal. Everything is imported from Thailand by Wite, a charming Thai who takes the time to come to your table for a chat or an explanation on a dish.
The place is quite small with a cosiness to it that puts you at ease straight away. Then menu comes and yes you want to order everything that's on it!
Uta got a green mango salad that was as tasty as it looked. Apart from that sneaky little piece of red chili, she loved it. I settled myself with Shrimps satay grilled with lemongrass. Cooked to perfection!
Then, we both had curry, Uta had red curry with grilled duck, grapes and pineapple. So good, the duck was melting in your mouth!
Beef is my thing and they had a beautiful Salers steak grilled to your liking with green curry and Thai aubergine and basil. Just perfect, the meat was so good I could have eaten a second plate! All that washed down with imported Thai beer. Nice and sweet!
Just to finish us off we had freshly cut Thai mango with sticky rice in coconut milk.
There we go, if your not already on the way to this jewel, then get your fingers out and run there! They open every day, so no excuse!

Horoscope or eroscope?

Look what I read this morning on my Facebook chinese horoscope : "Your love life will undergo sudden blooming: inhibitions, taboos, blocks... every such thing will be dispelled as if by a magic gust of wind; you'll be entering an absolute state of grace!". Bloody hell! Can't wait for that gust of wind!
